That’s why we’ve gone ahead and picked out a few of our favorite healthy apple recipes that showcase them in a whole new (yet just as delicious) light.

Which Apple is the Healthiest?

Not all apples are created equal. Some apples are better for baking, some apples are sweeter than others and, most importantly, some have more nutritional benefits than others (though, they’re all healthy additions to your day!). Though your recipe may recommend a certain variety, for the most nutritious result, stick with these wholesome all-stars: Granny Smith, Liberty, Red Delicious, Honeycrisp and Braeburn.

How to Cook Apples

There are lots of different ways to cook apples, such as baking, frying and stewing, and each method produces a different flavor and texture. Smoked Gouda and Apple Hasselback Chicken

Cut Hasselback-style then stuffed with smoked Gouda and apples, this chicken offers mouthwatering flavor with every forkful.

Prep: 15 minutes

Cook: 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 4 (5 oz. each) chicken breasts
  • Salt
  • Ground pepper
  • Olive oil
  • 4 slices Private Selection™ Smoked Gouda Sliced Cheese
  • 1 large apple

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper; set aside.
  2. Cut cheese slices into 6 pieces each; set aside.
  3. Cut apple into quarters. Remove core. Cut each quarter into 6 pieces; set aside.
  4. Cut 6 vertical slits in each piece of chicken about ½” apart and about ¾ of the way down.
  5. Lightly coat chicken with olive oil; season with salt and pepper. Place on prepared baking sheet.
  6. Insert a slice of cheese and a few pieces apple into each slit in chicken.
  7. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.

Apple & Almond Butter Stuffed Sweet Potatoes

Here’s an egg-free breakfast option that’s easy to make ahead and reheat on busy mornings.

Prep: 10 minutes

Cook: 45 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 4 sweet potatoes
  • 2 Tbsp. Simple Truth Organic™ Virgin Coconut Oil
  • 3 apples, cored and cubed
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. vanilla
  • 4 Tbsp. almond butter
  • Chia seeds

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Poke sweet potatoes several times with a fork and place on baking sheet.
  2. Bake 45-60 minutes or until potatoes are tender when tested with a paring knife.
  3. Meanwhile, melt coconut oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add apples, cinnamon and salt. Cook 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until apples are tender. Stir in vanilla.
  4. To serve, slice open sweet potatoes and fluff with fork. Fill with apple mixture, drizzle with melted almond butter and sprinkle with hemp or chia seeds, if desired. Refrigerate leftovers.

Ginger Apple Salad

Not only are raw apple cider vinegar and ginger loaded with nutritional benefits, they also happen to taste great in tandem.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Simple Truth™ Sliced Raw Almonds
  • 1 Tbsp. tamari
  • 1 tsp. toasted sesame oil
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • ¼ cup Simple Truth Organic™ Raw Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp. shallot, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp. ginger, grated
  • 1 Tbsp. Dijon mustard
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ¼ tsp. ground black pepper
  • 8 oz. Simple Truth Organic™ 50/50 Salad Blend Mix
  • 1 bunch asparagus, thinly sliced on a bias, woody ends discarded
  • 2 Simple Truth Organic™ Honeycrisp Apples, chopped

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. On baking sheet, toss almonds with tamari and sesame oil. Bake 6-8 minutes or until toasted.
  3. Whisk together olive oil, apple cider vinegar, shallot, ginger, mustard, salt and pepper.
  4. In large bowl, combine salad greens, asparagus and apples. Toss with desired amount of dressing.
  5. To serve, top with tamari almonds.

Plant Burgers with Caramelized Apple and Onion Spread

Burgers – both traditional and plant-based – are delicious when paired with a variety of sweet and savory toppings. Thanks to this recipe, you can take a few easy-to-find ingredients and turn any night into gourmet (plant) burger night.

Cook: 25 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tbsp. avocado oil
  • 1 small Kroger Honeycrisp Apples, cored and finely chopped
  • 1 sweet Vidalia onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp. dried rosemary
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. maple syrup
  • 2 Tbsp. red wine vinegar
  • 1 package (8 oz.) Simple Truth™ Emerge Plant Based Patties
  • 2 hamburger buns, toasted
  • ½ cup baby salad greens

Directions:

  1. In small saucepan over medium heat, heat oil. Cook apple, onion, rosemary and salt 12 to 15 minutes, until softened and onions are browning around edges. Add maple syrup and vinegar. Reduce heat to low. Let cook until mixture reaches jam-like consistency.
  2. In large skillet over medium-high heat, cook plant-burger patties 4 minutes. Flip and continue cooking 3 to 4 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  3. To serve, place a small handful of greens on bottom of each bun. Top with cooked patties. Spread generously with apple onion mixture.

Apples with Creamy Cinnamon Peanut Butter Dip
